Runny nose season has approached and it’s frustrating taking so many pills to ease the symptoms away. But there is actually a homemade remedy made up of 4 easy to find ingredients that can boost your immune system and clear all the mucus from your lungs.
Having flu-like symptoms can pretty much ruin your day (or even week) and limits you to function properly. Thankfully, not only are these 4 ingredients easy to find (and you may have them in your kitchen already), but the recipe is simple to make.
The combination of water, lemon, honey and ginger can clear up even the harshest mucus and phlegm throughout your entire respiratory system. Read below to see how to make this recipe!
The Benefits of Drinking Water
Water is important to drink on a daily basis, simply because it helps clear out the toxins in your body. By drinking lots of water, you can help loosen up the mucus and phlegm so it dissolves faster. Water also helps regulate your metabolism, and warm water helps keep your body temperature normal.
The Benefits of Ginger
Even when your flu-like symptoms vanish, you may still have mucus in the back of your throat. If you’re ever in such a situation, take ginger. Ginger’s major benefit is that it cures headaches that originate from congested sinuses.
There’s also an active component in ginger that’s actively used in many medications called oleoresin. Oleorisin improves your whole body, not to mention removing excessive mucus in your lungs. Consuming ginger also helps with inflammation and asthma.
The Benefits of Honey
Honey is an immune system boosting bomb as it has anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects. It’s high amount of flavonoids and antioxidants help treat various conditions such as hay fever and different types of allergies.
It’s recommended to use raw honey instead of refined. This is because raw honey isn’t filtered or heated, which doesn’t end up killing the helpful bacteria. The bacteria has many active compounds that are used in combating different illnesses. Honey helps sooth the muscle linings (due to its anti-inflammatory effect) and decreases the amount of mucus and phlegm. You can consume honey daily as a natural sweetener in your drinks (a much healthier option than sugar).
The Benefit of Lemon
It’s no secret that lemon has high amounts of vitamin C and potassium, which is extremely beneficial for our health. Lemon also has bacteria-fighting properties which helps reduce mucus and phlegm. Lemon also helps regulate your blood pressure, which is also great for reducing inflammation.
The Mucus Fighting Immune System Boosting Recipe
Here is an extremely healthy recipe that consists of only 4 ingredients and is very simple to make.
- 1/4 of a cup of raw honey
- 1/2 a cup of filtered water
- 4 Tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons of ground ginger or an inch of finely chopped fresh ginger
Here’s how you make it:
Mix together the water and ginger. Then, put in on a stove and let it boil for 10 minutes. Let the mixture cool off for a few minutes and then add the lemon and raw honey. You have to let it stay over night, and you can even put it in the fridge. You can consume this drink for a week by taking two tablespoons each morning before breakfast.
Consume this for 40 days and your immune system should be improved. After 40 days, take a 2 week break, and then start the cycle all over again. If you have a serious issue with mucus and phlegm, you can use this mixture as a steamer and breathe it in.
You can do this by heating the mixture in a pot (make sure it starts to boil). Take the pot away from the stove and place your face above it and inhale the steam for 5 minutes. For maximum effects, cover your head with a towel.
